I *think* I've got my head around what you mean. I'm still not sure adding disc data to a profile based on a different disc's ID is correct, and I'm not sure making an alternate version when there isn't another version already in the online database for the same release is correct either, but it will be interesting to see if it's accepted.
I've got the UK release of "The 4400" and I think it's in the same format as yours. (I haven't unwrapped it yet, but from the looks of it, it's a box with two cases inside it.) At the moment it's in the online database as a single box set profile, with all the discs attached to it as child profiles. (I personally don't like disc level profiles for TV series, as they mess up the Credit Lookup Tool results significantly, so I never make or download them, as I don't feel the advantages outweigh the disadvantages and the work involved in creating them.) Unfortunately, the box set profile itself is pretty bare, but (I'm assuming) all the cast and crew info is in the child profiles. If nothing changes and one day I get around to auditing the box set, if anything has changed in terms of cast and crew and I use the newer information for the box set profile, the box set profile will not match the information in the child profiles as I won't have changed the latter, another reason why I'm not a fan of child profiles, as the information in a single profile can then be different, depending on where you look. Sorry I'm ranting a bit!

It sounds exactly like the UK release of The Walking Dead Complete Series Box set - two giant keep cases each holding about 25 discs and each case with unique artwork, and the two cases are in a box. The two cases don't have their own EANs. (I've been slowly auditing this for over a year!)
How have you submitted the two 'child's box sets' if they don't have unique EANs and more than one disc in each set? | Posted: Topic Replies: 11, Topic Views: 722 |

Found it. Me with much the same question.
TV Series Box Sets
I think you can also add every disc as a child profile to the box set profile if you want too, but that still won't give you season profiles. | Posted: Topic Replies: 11, Topic Views: 722 |

I think if you have a TV series box set and only the overall box set has it's own EAN, you can't submit the individual seasons separately. You have to simply put everything into the overall box set profile and just list all the disc ID's within that. It's a limitation in the programme as you've discovered, (as I did a few years back).
This is because the individual seasons don't have EANs (so you can't obviously use those as they don't exist).
Or, each season has multiple disc IDs, (assuming each season is spread over more than one disc, as is normally the case). You shouldn't try to allocate all of a season's data to one disc ID and submit that, as this means that disc ID based profile in the online database would have information in it that's nothing to do with it and is actually associated with a different disc ID. I think that what you're suggesting doing?
I think the only exception might be if each season only has one disc (so each season does only have one disc ID, so you can use that). You might end up sort of making up the season titles if you do this though.
What I do in these cases is put everything into the box set profile (as I said at the start) and submit that, but locally I also make season profiles based on title, although you can do what you've suggest too if you prefer.
Hope that's helpful? | Posted: Topic Replies: 11, Topic Views: 722 |

Quoting huskersports:
Quote: You don't need those "Season 1" and "Season 2" dividers at all. So, put 1-1. Live and Learn, then 1-2, 1-3, 1-4. etc.
For the 2nd season example in your picture, put 2-1. Worlds Apart, then 2-2, 2-3, 2-4, etc.
This is my preferred way to do it too, although a lot of people seem to prefer to use dividers; I'm not sure there's an absolute 'rules way' to do it. For me personally dividers just seem to clutter things up for no real advantage, plus I seem to remember that since the last programme update they don't work quite the same way across the desktop and mobile apps. | Posted: Topic Replies: 11, Topic Views: 1174 |

Good morning. Question...
I have a submission in at present to remove an entire entry in the online database that's there via a UPC number - 5050582964516 - it's Season 1 in a German release of the Eureka five season box set -5053083001292 - although the same issue applies to all five seasons Each season has it's own case and sleeve.
The season's sleeve has no UPC on it, but 5050582964516 does apparently relate to a stand alone Season 1 release on the German Amazon site.
The box set was originally contributed in 2015, the season in 2014 and the five seasons successfully linked to the box set in 2017.
I've received two No votes and no Yes votes, with the explanation that it's a legitimate entry, since it is a separate release from the series set.
I had asked for the entry to be removed, but given the latter bit of information, this suggests that 5050582964516 (and the other four seasons), rather than being removed should instead be unlinked from the 5053083001292 box set instead.
Any thoughts?

Hello. Quick Question.
When contributing uncredited cast, do we use the Credit Lookup Tool to determine what name to contribute to the online database, or do we just use the name as given in the source being used to identify the cast?
I rarely contribute uncredited cast, but at the moment I'm looking at a music disc with no on-screen cast credits, but it did come with a booklet that contains all that information. My understanding is that these are classed as uncredited, but as several have their stage names used in the booklet, I realised I wasn't sure which route to go down in terms of what names to use.

What about von/Von, when it's part of a name in a title? (The inconsistent use of this for names in the database makes me, as you might expect, incandescent with fury, but it has a relevance to titles too.)
There are probably other words mostly from non-English titles (or 'foreign words' adopted into English), plus the fact the other languages aren't so keen on capitalising most things. Not sure how the capitalization tool deals with these.
Maybe Invelos should had gone down the Discogs route and just capitalised every word; not technically correct but a lot easer to do. | Posted: Topic Replies: 23, Topic Views: 12065 |

Hello everyone. Thanks for your thoughts.
That's certainly cleared that up then!
I think I'll submit an update to a profile to add a Visual Effects Supervisor from an Additional Special Effects Company and see what happens. (It's "Elektra" 5039036042277 if anyone is interested and wants to look at the actual credits.)
Edit:
Well, I won't be doing that after all, as it's already there. I must have seen it in the profile and wondered if it was right, rather than seen it in the credits and wondered if it should be in the profile. But I would have sworn I was right the first time. I was wondering, is there a general consensus about this?
Sometimes credits include a heading something like "Visual Effects by Bla Bla Bla" and under it a Visual Effects Supervisor is listed. Generally this individual is contributed, sometimes with and sometimes without the company details added in a divider.
However, if the heading is something like "Additional Visual Effects by Bla Bla Bla" do we include or exclude the individual if he's still credited as a Visual Effects Supervisor? It gets more confusing if the company divider isn't included, as then there's no context for the submission of the individual.
The Rules say we include Visual Effects Supervisors but I don't think there's any clear guide on what to do in this sort of case.
Apologies if this has been considered before. Thanks. | Posted: Topic Replies: 5, Topic Views: 5181 |

I feel your pain! The eyesight, the using the TV for 4K discs, the tragic loss you have suffered.
In my local database I collect details (writers and performers) for all of the music that's used in films etc. As so many stage names and other naming anomalies crop up, this can take a long time, especially for very obscure artists. (And nearly always in an extra tiny font that even in HD can still be blurry when magnified.) Even now, years later, I can remember spending what my memory now considers "forever" profiling a film on DVD that had over 50 bits of music credited as used in it, mostly by hip-hop / rap artists, most of whom were not well known, many of whom had multiple stage names. Then I did something that resulted in my losing all the information.
I'm pretty sure my brain has purposefully blocked out the details of this catastrophe (I can't even remember what film it was now) to prevent me from suffering permanent psychological damage. Even now when I go through this profiling process, I sit worrying how often I should save what I've typed in vs the extra time doing this a lot would use up. It's like the mouse is being dragged towards the Cancel Button, which itself gets bigger and bigger the more records I've inputted but not yet saved, whilst the Save & Close one itself shrinks until it's the size of one pixel and sneakily hides behind the former! It sounds completely stupid but I'm pretty sure it's true. | Posted: Topic Replies: 6, Topic Views: 6183 |
